Invisible Forest on the iceberg. 2026

Invisible Forest is an interactive data sculpture visualizing Antarctic phytoplankton, the “Invisible Forest”, generating half of Earth’s oxygen. Luminous, iceberg-inspired paper forms are mapped with 3D models of phytoplankton observed by the artist in Antarctica. A proximity sensor detects viewers approaching, triggering a simulation that “dissolves” the digital organisms by reducing their clarity. This interaction confronts the fragile “in-between” state of our polar regions: suspended between pristine isolation and the accelerating threat of the Anthropocene. The work reveals how our desire to touch nature often precipitates its disappearance, turning the invisible forest into a spectral memory.
