| RubberMADE
RubberMADE is a collection of wearable objects created by exploring materials and forms from the kitchen and the laboratory. New products for the home, due to government funded wartime projects, can define the post-war era of the 1950’s: Tupperware, Rubbermaid, Technicolor, and Saran Wrap were must haves in the modern home. Processed goods and consumer convenience have become the unquestioned standards of the American middle class. Creating wearable objects utilizing synthetic materials, baking molds, and modular elements, while borrowing advertising slogans of the era, my objects are meant to provoke questions about social standards and the ubiquitous synthetic and processed products in our homes. Jewelry, as a portable product and art medium, has the ability to expand the dialogue beyond the walls of the home or gallery. |
